Restaurant with a Grand Canal view in Venice

View the menu

Terrazza Sommariva is one of the few Venetian restaurants with tables directly on the Grand Canal, on Riva del Vin, a few steps from the Rialto Bridge. Our open-air terrace offers one of the city's most iconic views: gondolas, vaporetti and historic palazzi gliding by, with the white arch of the Rialto Bridge as a backdrop.

A terrace right on the water

Our terrace stretches along Riva del Vin, the historic wine landing of Venice. Tables are one metre from the water, shaded by awnings and lit by lanterns in the evening. It is one of the few Grand Canal terraces where you can sit down to dinner with a direct view of the bridge and the ballet of gondolas.

View of the Rialto Bridge

The Rialto Bridge is Venice's most photographed monument. From our terrace tables you see its white arch, especially magical at sunset when the stone turns pink. The view changes hour by hour: full at midday, warm at sunset, magical with the evening lights.

Venetian seafood with a view

With a view like this, the menu should be worthy of the scenery. We serve raw and cooked seafood antipasti, lobster tagliatelle or spaghetti with vongole veraci, mixed Adriatic fry or grilled sea bass, finishing with tiramisù and a glass of Prosecco DOC. The fish arrives every morning from the Rialto market, 200 metres from our kitchen.

How to book the right table

Grand Canal terraces sell out first. Rule of thumb: book at least 3-7 days ahead for weekends, 2-3 days on weekdays. The most requested slot is sunset (7:00-8:30 pm), when the golden light makes the view magical. Please flag 'canal view' when you book.
