Morning is the calmest time to see the Grand Canal: work boats, vaporetti, the city waking up. Terrazza Sommariva serves breakfast every day from 08:00 to 11:30 on Riva del Vin, a minute's walk from Rialto Bridge.

A morning itinerary. Early breakfast, then a walk around Rialto and its historic market, on the same San Polo side (stall hours can vary — check before you go). Or cross Rialto Bridge towards San Marco while the alleys are still quieter.
Getting there in the morning. Vaporetto line 1 to San Silvestro, on our side with no bridges; or lines 1 and 2 to Rialto, then cross the bridge. Water taxis can stop in front of the restaurant — handy if you arrive with luggage.
